God’s own country Kerala will get its first ever Vande Bharat Express on April 25.
The train with a scheduled run between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasargod will be flagged off at Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station tomorrow. It will cover 11 districts namely Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasargod.
According to Indian Railways, initially, the train was intended to operate between Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur. However, Indian Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently announced that the train’s route will be extended to Kasaragod.
Kerala will be the fifth state in South India to have its own Vande Bharat Express, following Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.
According to Railway officials, despite having a maximum speed of 160 km/hour, Vande Bharat Express is anticipated to operate in Kerala at a rate of 100 km/hour. It is common for the majority of Vande Bharat trains to travel at an average speed ranging between 75 to 85 km per hour.Earlier, Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan said that the Vande Bharat train would help to increase the pace of development in Kerala.
Vande Bharat Express has revolutionised the train travel experience since its inception four years ago. This cost-effective semi-high-speed train has expanded to operate on 14 different routes.
The inauguration of Kerala’s first Vande Bharat Express will take place at Thiruvananthapuram Railway Station on April 25, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in attendance.
Thereafter, other development projects worth more than INR 3200 crore will be unveiled at Thiruvananthapuram. This includes Kochi water metro, a project connecting 10 islands around Kochi through battery-operated electric hybrid boats for seamless connectivity with Kochi city.
During the event, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation of various rail projects including redevelopment of Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Varkala Sivagiri railway stations.
